THE ISLANDS – EXPLORATION AGE
THE PLOT
[/b][/u]THE PLOT
Atlantis was the domain of Poseidon, god of the sea. When Poseidon fell in love with a mortal woman, Cleito, he created a dwelling at the top of a hill near the middle of the island and surrounded the dwelling with rings of water and land to protect her. Cleito gave birth to five sets of twin boys who became the first rulers of Atlantis. The island was divided among the brothers with the eldest, Atlas, first King of Atlantis, being given control over the central hill and surrounding areas. At the top of the central hill, a temple was built to honor Poseidon which housed a giant gold statue of Poseidon riding a chariot pulled by winged horses. It was here that the rulers of Atlantis would come to discuss laws, pass judgments, and pay tribute to Poseidon…
Everyone knows what happens later on. The people forget their gods, and ignore their offerings. Upset by this, Poseidon destroys the city and sends it crashing under the waves, never to be seen.
Years have passed, decades, centuries even, since Homer first wrote of the famed city. People began moving outwards, traversing the oceans and seas in the never-ending search for something more than what they know.
It is the early 1700s. Christopher Columbus has come and gone, yet the Revolutions have yet to pass. That’s another two generations away. But the spirit of adventure is growing, and people are going farther and searching deeper than they ever have before. Danger sits around the bend of every new discovery, but also the chance to be known for all ages. Cartographers, adventurers, merchants, and pirates, all taking advantage of a brave new world far beyond the horizon.
Far away from all of this, though, lives a girl and her father, a lighthouse keeper and former cartographer. Separated from the rest of society and living alone on their island, the only connections the girl has to the outside world is her aunt, who despises the girl’s outlandish ways. That is until the girl’s 19th birthday, when a great storm washes upon her shores a dying merman, claiming that she is the keeper of Atlantis. Before he dies, the merman sends the call all across the globe, to every man and woman upon the sea, that the key has been found.
As much as her father tries, the call has been sounded, and like sharks smelling blood in the water, the frenzy to claim the key begins. Naval officers, adventurers, pirates and merpeople alike shall all fight for the right to claim Atlantis as theirs. Who shall win? And once opened, what secrets does the Lost City hold?
Maybe there was a reason Poseidon sent the city below the waves…

Sirens – beautiful sea nymphs that typically lure men to their deaths with their mystifying voice. Some can also tell prophecies to those lucky enough to survive. Very few live. Immortal. Female only.
