~Sometimes I don’t wanna be better, Sometimes I can’t put back together, Sometime I find it hard to believe there’s someone else who could be just as MESSED UP as me~
~Poor unfortunate souls, in pain, in need. This one longing to be thinner, that one wants to get the girl and do I help them? Yes indeed!~
NAME:Anqelique
AGE: 27
GENDER:Female
RACE:Dark Nymph
OCCUPATION:Witch
REGION:
ERA: Medival
POWER:
- Illusions – Anqelique can produce illusions, usually by enchanting a talisman or accessory, which last quite long and are quite convincing. She specializes in creating illusions only perceivable to one person, though she can enchant at least twenty at a time, if she wishes it. Her illusions are bound only by her own imagination, though in some cases it is the imagination of the receiver that is that paint brush, so to speak.
- Seeing – Through a mirror or puddle of water, Angelique can see things that are distant. This power has rules, however. She cannot try to see something she has not already seen, nor can she communicate through the portal. She can hear sound, though softly, and the quality of the vision depends on the quality of the surface (meaning an image in a puddle will ripple and an image in a dirty mirror will be fuzzy). She uses this power sparingly, for there are not many things she truly wishes to see anymore.
- Light – Using her own energy, she can create shields or blades of light, which are as strong and sharp as a blade or steel shield. They can only take as much battering as her mind, and if her concentration breaks, so does the spell. She also uses this light for menial tasks, such as lighting her way, reading books, or creating a fancy show to attract a customer.
- Curses – Angelique can curse people who truly make her angry, or betray her in some way (which is hard, since she doesn’t trust anybody). These curses range from mild to extreme, depending on how much she hates you, and their effects vary greatly.
EQUIPMENT:
- Spells/talismans – All the “equipment” she needs to perform her magic, most of it just baubles and trinkets she picked up off the grounds or stole, which she has enchanted to bear her magic, and carry her illusions. Some of these are genuine magic items, but most are fake. (She stole the real ones too)
- Chii – A large black demon snake who acts as her companion. He has some magical properties, though he has yet to reveal them. He is sometimes known to briefly appear to people as that they fear the most.
- Salesbag – Angelique keeps every sale she has ever made in a large back she carries. All of the scrolls inside are small, seem to take up less space than they should, and are made of enchanted paper, binding those who sign it to their word. She sometimes goes back over them when she thinks she may have missed a repo or deadline.
LIKES:
- Money
- Ginger Snaps
- Magic
- Darkness
- Getting what she wants
- Playing cat-and-mouse
DISLIKES:
- Beer
- Being told “no”
- Losing
- Being made a fool of
- Children
- Sunrises/Sunsets
- Light
- Bright colors
FEARS:
- Fire - Due to an incident when she was younger, Angelique has a fear of fire, and doesn't even keep any nonmagical fire when she camps, because it is out of her control. She fears magical fire even more, as it can more easily break what little control she does hold over it.
SECRET:
- Fragile heart – Anqelique wants desperately for someone to love her.
- Uncaring and unafraid – Believing that she wouldn’t be missed and is not worth saving, Angelique honestly does not care if she dies.
PERSONALITY:
Angelique is manipulating and cunning, and is a gain-based person. She is greedy and ruthless, but at the same time is rather lazy when she doesn't think she has a good enough reason to work. It takes a great deal of bribery to get her to work for anyone but herself and if she ever ends up helping anyone, good or bad, without being bribed, she almost certainly did it on accident. She has almost no compassion, and truly does not care for anybody besides herself. She has no real goals in the world other than to gain as much as she can before she dies, at which point she will just try to find a way to go out with a bang. She wants to be remembered after she is dead, believing this is the only true immortality that anyone could ever achieve. After all, she reasons, even demons die eventually.
Angelique can best be described as a snake. While not even trying to hide her evil nature, she tempts people with her spells and magic, cheating them out of money or other goods, sometimes even sending them on missions to obtain things for her when she is too lazy to get them herself. She is extremely harsh when it comes to payment, however, and if you fail to pay her for her services (she usually gives you the merchandise before you have to pay, simply because she loves the chance to chase you down), she will hunt you down and make good use of her powers. She holds a strict no-refunds policy, and believes that if you don't know what you're getting into when you speak with her, you're too stupid to be relieved of the grievances that you brought onto yourself. Despite everything, one thing Angelique almost never does is lie. She does sometimes come off as caring and kind, though it is all behind a bitter-sweet smile and a poisonous voice. She really doesn't care what you do, so long as she gets her payment (which is not always money).
She knows that what she does can be considered wrong, and she believes in her heart that she is wrong. Because of this, she has no qualms about dying, and while she does not seek her death, she will not fight her death when she believes it to be coming. Perhaps this is because she has nothing to live for, or perhaps because she does not believe she is worth it, but Angelique has no fear of death. She will not die when she has something to do, though, because she believes that dying in the middle of a task is stupid and pointless. Though she knows that she is despicable and lowly and really the kind of person everyone would hate, she feels no regret for her life and hates it when people pity her for what she is.
Despite all her short-coming, however, the one thing Angelique wants more than anything is to have at least one person to love. Even if they don't love her back, she just want to prove to herself that beneath all the darkness and evil, she really does have a heart. She is the kind of woman who would be eternally faithful to her partner, willing to forgive almost anything they do, and follow them anywhere, because the feelings in her heart are truly that strong. She has never really had the touch of a lover and it is the kind of thing that she craves above anything else.
HISTORY:
Angelique's birth was a mystery. She was found by a straying gypsy elf woman on the side of the road close to the Outlands. The woman, whose name was Sora, was reputed as shrewd and cunning, and saw the merit with having a companion to do the work and help her out. So, she picked it up, and suckled it from her wolf companion, who had just given birth to her own litter. Sora named the little one Angelique, for she was truly taken with the girl's beauty and obvious magic potential. She raised the girl while wandering the world and selling her services. It was from her that Angelique learned her money-savvy ways, and the little girl began to covet and crave gold before she even learned her first spell.
At first, Angelique truly seemed like she could be a nice person. She had none of the qualities she now displays as a grown woman, besides her greed, and even that was not as pronounced. She was a beautiful child, with pure black hair and black eyes, and skin so fair and flawless that it was quite obvious from the beginning that she was not human. Her ears were not pointed enough to be an elf's, and she had none of the natural affiliation or personality traits that elves possess. She also did not seem like a spirit, with no mischievous tendencies, and she was definitely not a fairy, somber and quiet as she was. It was from this that Sora determined that she was a nymph, something later confirmed by a sorcerer they met in a small town. He had seen them walking in the street and, while speaking with Sora, noticed the aura about the girl. "That child is cursed! A Dark Nymph is in your care, and she shall cause your death! She was born of the dark magic in the Outlands and has no place here!"
That night, the man made sure they knew he was serious. The villagers, led by the sorcerer and their own fear of Angelique's potential, burned the inn that the two were staying at, with no concern for the other people staying at the inn. Sora escaped easily, but by the time she realized that Angelique was not at her side, it was too late. The girl was still in their room, trapped beneath the rubble of the door. The door frame had collapsed while she was running through it, and she had been caught beneath it. Eager for the death of the "monster", and not for the death of Sora, the sorcerer refused to let the woman get in to save her surrogate daughter. The true horror of the vent as the whole thing was that she remained conscious the entire time.
It was not for another five hours that Sora managed to get to Angelique's side and by that time, the damage had been done Terrified, bitter and bearing a new, hideous scar across her back and shoulders, the girl she pulled from the building was not the same sweet girl she had raised for the past nine years. This new Angelique was cruel and began to see that perhaps the sorcerer was right. In fact, the very instant she awoke, the first thing she did was kill the sorcerer that had hurt her so. Though Sora never got to prove her daughter's hand in the event, she no doubt suspected. He was found the next morning with multiple stab wounds, his throat slashed, tied up in the river.
They left town quickly, and Sora hoped that they would also leave Angelique's personality would get better. If anything, however, it got worse. Though she was not murderous or outwardly angry, she was becoming every inch the Dark Nymph that the sorcerer predicted she would. She suddenly saw the world in a different light. She now saw it as a game, a game where the prizes were your pleasure, your happiness, and your life. She realized that she had to be cutthroat to win any of those prizes.
Then, one day, she and Sora fought when Sora confronted her about her declining attitude. It had scared away customers, and costed Sora several good sales. It was on that day that Angelique cast her first curse, at the age of ten. She cursed Sora to a painful death before stomping into the forest. She stayed out in the forest for two days, thinking that she would calm down. But she found that the anger only stayed within her heart, breeding more bitterness. Though she felt she had always known it, she felt that this incident proved that Sora cared only for her sales, and not for Angelique in the slightest. For the first and last time, Angelique cried. Since then, she has secretly craved true love, or even someone to love, because she knew that she never loved Sora either, not truly.
When she returned to their camp the next day, she found Sora dead, with no wounds on her body. It was at that point that Angelique realized that it was her curse, which was angry and powerful, that had killed her. She found Sora's wolf companion as well, whimpering in a tree stump, scared witless. She killed the animal easily, and turned away forever from the life she had led.
Just hours after leaving Sora's body, Angelique found a strange black snake in the woods. Strangely, it spoke to her, whispering to her of tales that enchanted her. She took him upon her shoulder and named him Chii for his blood-red eyes. They have been together ever since, though they do not truly care for each other. She provides him with food and shelter, and he gives her extra oomph in her magic and helping her when she needs it.
Almost immediately, Angelique carved her niche in the world. Since she only really knew how to do one thing, she did it. She began to sell magic services to those willing to pay, and became, slowly but surely, the person she is today. She learned more magic from random magic-user she encountered, and perfected the abilities she had naturally. She became cool and cruel on the outside, and hears the tales that people whisper with a casual ear. Very little happens that she does not hear in rumors, and since she services most anybody, there are few places she has not been in the lands of men.
Angelique still sees the world as she did that night she killed Sora. She also believes that, since no one in the world cares for her, and she does not either, her death will not make a difference in the world.
