Kendo-training ~ Having trained for years in the art of Kendo, Rei is more than proficient in numerous sword styles, and has immense skill with both bokken and katana.

Looking 'hot' ~ Rei is known for being a remarkably attractive girl, even if she seems a little serious at times. She does, however, know that men find her attractive and is more than happy to use it to her advantage.

EQUIPMENT:
Bokken~ Since the Virus began infecting the bodies of the dead and walking corpses started showing up at her school, Rei has taken to carrying her kendo training bokken with her at all times. She wields it masterfully, and thanks to her years practising kendo, she is remarkably skilled with it, making her a combatant not to be trifled with. The bokken itself is of regular size and shape, just a thick, wooden practice weapon, although it is more than capable of breaking bone if swung hard enough.

Modified high-school uniform~ Since Rei has decided to become a wandering protector of high school students, she continues to wear her uniform, although she has highly modified it. She has torn the skirt in numerous places to allow for easier movement, and carries a make-shift sheath to her bokken on her back.

~ Despite her apparent hatred of more 'preppy' girls, Rei has always wished she had their upbringing, and hopes that one day she will be able to act more femininely.

PERSONALITY:
When one thinks of Rei, one tends first to see a stoic, serious girl who rarely smiles, and is more content in her own company than in the company of others. Having been raised in a strict Japanese family, under the tutelage of her disciplined father who had always wanted a son, she gave up much of the fun afforded to the female race in order to become more like the boy her father had wanted. As such, she has spent most of her life feeling somewhat out of place, unable to fit in with either boys or girls, and consequently has a very limited understanding of jokes and friendly social conduct. That said, she can be highly manipulative, knowing how men see women, especially her. She has long since given in trying to meet new people, and therefore, seems a loner in the eyes of many, whereas in fact she is just unsure of how to act around strangers.

Despite her love of kendo, there is little else in her life she actually likes. Her seemingly 'better than you' attitude and disciplined nature is actually just her way of protecting herself from a long and deep seated sadness; and while many mistake her as an angry, lonesome person, she is in fact deeply sad that she is alone, and wants nothing more than to have some company her own age. If she could wish for anything, it would be that she could br accepted for who she was, and that she'd have a chance to act more like other girls her age, rather than in the disciplined manner of a male heir to a rich business empire.

Should she manage to gain a friend, Rei could become a deeply caring person, likely to place the loyalty she feels to her family in that person as well as or instead of those directly related to her. She would do anything to please, and while she could never be a 'girly girl', her serious and indifferent demeanour would dissipate a little.



HISTORY:
Rei Sonozaki was born to Mei and Hiroshima Sonozaki, a pair of high class business workers, Mei a key researcher in a pharmaceutical company and Hiroshima the head of a global banking corporation. From an early age, Rei was raised with a strict discipline, her father a firm believer in old Japanese codes and customs that guided the hand toward a firm and no nonsense upbringing.

Having always wanted a son, Hiroshima's dreams were destroyed when he and his wife separated, Mei sighting irreconcilable differences as a reason for divorce. Having her mother move away, Rei was left with her father, who, it seemed, had become only stricter, now treating her like the son that he would never be able to have.

Rather than partake in girly activities like many of the youngsters her age, she was forced to learn Kendo, study immense amounts and study business strategy. Her father drove her to be more masculine, and while she grew and developed into an attractive teen, he gave her no freedom to allow her personality to blossom in a similar manner, and he controlled her every action. At the age of 15 she had very little life, and while she had outstanding grades, years experience in Kendo, a brain so smart she could rival graduate economists, she lacked any social interaction.

Unsure of how to act around others, Rei became obsessed with one thing, and that was pleasing her father. She pushed herself tirelessly, constantly over achieving so that she could be the best daughter she could be. While she never expressed a desire to change, Rei was constantly jealous of other girls, and wished that she could have a more laid back existence, wished she could have their natural ease around others. However, not knowing how to change, she continued on the path her father had set her.

As she aged, she saw less and less of her father as he became more involved with business meetings, and she began living by herself, taking herself to school and managing life alone. She spent all her time on the outskirts of social interaction, never daring to get to close to anyone, and she began to develop attachments with people from afar, learning about their personalities and judging them as good or bad people without ever really talking to them herself.

When the Virus broke out, Rei noticed that less and less of her class mates were able to turn up to school, and she watched numerous people die on leaving the grounds. Constant army interference was run, and she began to feel any chance she had at a normal life was dissolving.

Taking matters into her own hands, Rei appointed herself as guardian of her class mates, feeling a sense of community to them, as despite the fact she was not one of their key members, she had spent many years wishing she was. Taking off at random from home and class, Rei wanders no man's land wielding her training bokken with leathal skill, and works tirelessly to protect those in danger. In doing so, she feels she makes her father proud, and more importantly, she feels as though she has a chance to find and meet new people, people who may actually accept her for who she is.
