Naomi Rayne
Is it over yet? Can I open my eyes?
Is this as hard as it gets? Is this what it feels like to really cry?

NAME: Naomi Rayne
AGE: She is four years old, but she looks somewhere in her teens or twenties
GENDER: Female
RACE: Android
OCCUPATION: U.A.S. Robot Control
REGION: Nation of Aeon
ERA: Future
POWER:
- Strength - As she is an android, Naomi is about four times stronger than a regular human.
- Senses - Naomi's sense of smell, taste, sight, touch and and sound are highly developed, and she is almost feline in her use of them. Ok, so technically she doesn't actually have those senses...but you know what I mean, yeah?
- Speed - Due to her mechanical body, she is about five times faster than a human, and is also extremely agile.
- Computer Skills - Naomi was designed as a hacker robot, so she knows her way around computers. She can't fix a mechanical problem (like repairing an engine or something), but she can hack with the best of them, and understands "how the System works", as she puts it.
EQUIPMENT:
- U.A.S. Rig Suit - Naomi's rig suit is black with white and grey lines, and she wears a knee-length black-and-red kimono over it. It also covers her hands and feet, and protects her body from neck to toe. It doesn't rise up over her throat, because she doesn't like the constriction, and just barely comes up to her base of her neck.
- U.A.S. Rifle - Her rifle is strapped to her back, in a holder that makes it very easy to remove, but a bit difficult to put away. It is usually on automatic.
- U.A.S. Uplink - She keeps her Uplink in a small pouch she carries on her hip.
- Service Knife - This knife is hidden in her obi. It is just a shade smaller than other knives, and she wields it expertly.
- Scout Servitor - Her Scout Servitor, which she affectionately dubbed "Sunny", is always by her side. She keeps its control panel in her kimono, in a hidden pocket on the inside of the left breast.
LIKES:
- Computers - Naomi's love of computers sometimes goes beyond even her job. She especially loves taking old or discarded computers and getting them up and running again. She also has some mechanical skills, but anything besides computers completely baffles her.
- Being of Use - Naomi was created to be useful, and she was created by the U.A.S. Thus, her entire being is focused to being useful to the U.A.S., and she strives to be their perfect tool.
- Brushing her hair - One of the most human things about her is her odd obsession with brushing her hair. She is always running her fingers through it, and seems to always find something to comb it with. She doesn't know where this habit comes from.
- Her Superiors - Naomi looks up to the men who lead the U.A.S., the men who have so much power and don't buckle under the pressure. She thinks it takes a lot of courage and strength to keep yourself composed under all that.
- Rain - She loves to stand outside in the rain, and sees rain as a bringer of life. It can put out fires and soothe hearts and helps the earth grow past anything scars that may have been inflicted on it. The fact that it is part of her last name might have something to do with that.
- Nicknames - Naomi often gives very affectionate, cute nicknames to those close to her. She doesn't mean anything mean by them, and doesn't understand that sometimes her nicknames could be considered cruel. She doesn't ever mean to hurt anyone.
DISLIKES:
- Fighting - She was not programmed to fight, and she dislikes it greatly. Though she accepts violence, and is somewhat resigned to its daily occurrences, she would just as rather not be involved in it herself.
- Hospitals - Because she herself does not get injured like normal humans do, Naomi has an aversion to hospitals, mostly because she sees them as places of death. She refuses to go to them, and it takes a very firm, direct order to get her to go anywhere near one.
- Being Interrupted - When she is doing something, Naomi is very focused, and having her concentration broken is one of the fastest ways to bring out her rare temper.
- The Heat - She gets very uncomfortable in high heats, and hates them with a passion. On very sunny days, she'll try as hard as she can to stay in her room.
- Lazy People - People who don't try their hardest just baffle Naomi. She doesn't understand how someone can sign themselves up for something as big as the Government and then not give their all to their cause.
FEARS:
- Losing her father - Naomi loves her father dearly, and she can't think of life without him. He is probably the one reason she will ever fight of her own volition.
- Death - Death is something that paralyzes Naomi, because she doesn't understand it. She can't just look up a cure for death and bring someone back to life, and if someone dies, she can't just reboot them and start them over again. The thought of losing someone close to her, or even herself, to Death is something that keeps her up at night screaming.
SECRET:
- The Liberation - Though she could never admit this (for fear of being killed), Naomi has a very deep, not even grudging, respect and sometimes even affection for her "enemies". She admires the bravery it takes to stand up to something as large as the Government, and she knows that they must have gone through a lot to make them angry enough to go against the Government. She even feels guilty when she hurts them, because she believes they've already endured enough.
PERSONALITY:
Naomi is very kind-spirirted and kind, hardly the kind of person you'd typically think of as being such a loyal tool to the U.A.S. She is very soft and has a very sisterly air about her. She doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body (so to speak), and almost never is angry. Committing violence doesn't even ever really cross her mind. She seems more of a healing personality than someone who hacks and helps the soldiers regularly. She never goes out of her way to harm anyone, and actually doesn't usually hurt anyone by accident either. She is altogether a very warm person.
Naomi can almost be considered naive in some of her beliefs and actions, but her world is anything but. She sees things in a very mature way, and understands that the world is a very violent, bloody place. She also understands that it is the vault of the people that it is so. She does wish that people would stop fighting, but she knows that won't happen in the near future. She believes it is futile to try and stop the fighting, but not as futile as it would be to try and stay out of the fight. She feels these are almost impossible notions only ever achieved by children, and not even that anymore.
She is a very conflicted person, beneath the surface. Though she was made for the U.A.S., and loves them as her home, she does believe that some of the things they do are horrific and wrong. She feels the same for the Liberation, but she also knows that as much as she is supposed to hate them, it is her "family" that created them. If she could, she would be a neutral party, but something deeper than mind, stronger than heart, keeps her from ever leaving the U.A.S. Sometimes, she almost wishes she could be rescued away, but knows that the chances of that are very small. She also knows that if that happened, she would likely fight to stay with the Government.
As a hacker, Naomi finds a kind of peace in herself when she is working with computers. Even when she's not on a mission, she will hook herself up to a computer and just drown the world away. Computers, in their world of 1s and 0s, are neutral and beautiful and won't judge her for the feelings she hates.
HISTORY:
Nigel Rayne, a scientist on the side of the U.A.S., lived only for his young daughter Isa, the only person he had left in the world. Even his work did not make him happy like the girl he had raised on his own. She was a kind, gentle soul who was completely devoted to him. They had been together since the tragic death of her mother and brothers years before, and he had been left with the two-year-old girl as his only comfort in the world. He raised her to continue in his work when he left, and she became one of the greatest hackers that U.A.S. had known. She was his sole pride and joy, and he, seemingly, was hers. It broke his heart and mind when the girl, rebellious and ashamed of her father and his ways, defected to the side of the Liberation suddenly, leaving her father behind. She never looked back, and he never saw or heard from her again.
For two years, the man just moped around and moved through life like a dream. He was one more failed project away from being "erased" from the U.A.S. No one knows what sparked it, but he suddenly began to work on something new. In record time that shocked even himself, he created an android who would service both the U.A.S. and himself. He revealed her to the President, who accepted her, saying that the old man deserved some kindness in the world.
The android was not entirely unique. She was created in the likeness of Nigel's daughter, and might as well have been the girl's twin. She was also programmed with Isa's personality, amazing computer skills, and even her memories. To always remind himself that she was not his daughter, however, he programmed her to only respond to the name "Naomi". It heals and breaks his heart to see her every day, displaying everything his daughter did, doing everything she could, saying everything she might have, but never answering his call when he said her name.
Just months after her awakening, Naomi's achieved Isa's previous ambition of becoming a Robot Controller. She was assigned a Scout Servitor, after her father changed it so that it would not reveal her identity as an android, a fact he insists be hidden from the "delicate" girl. She bonded with the little thing at once, and likes to believe it has just as many feelings as she does.
It has been four years since Naomi was created. As far as she is concerned, however, she was born in a poor town and taken with her father when he enlisted to become part of the U.A.S., and has been living there ever since.

“Thank you very much, Hirato-san!” Sachiko responded brightly at his comment on her dress, which caused her, naturally, to blush slightly. She bowed slightly again as she spoke, but found herself wondering why the hell she was doing so at the same time. Bowing while thanking someone really didn’t seem like something she should do in this situation…it wasn’t like they were on duty or anything like that. Well, he is normally my superior, I guess. I guess it’s just a force of habit she reasoned.Oh, he was talking again. She, for a moment, stopped to listen, but quickly tuned out again. More rules. Hirato really loved rules, didn’t he? “Concession stand…” she murmured, and burned it into her mind as best she could, because she was pretty sure she was going to forget that later. At his question about the car, she asked, “How long will it take to get there?” That was something she had not actually been told yet, and it was kind of important. She also didn’t know when the thing started.
Whatever his answer was, however, she was distracted by Hiryuu’s sudden and rather dramatic sigh. Turning to him to ask what was wrong, she stopped when he also began talking to her. It seemed he had completely missed the last couple of minutes of compliment-swapping, and seemed determined to make up for it. After he was finished (actually, a little before that, if you want to be specific), she began laughing again. She stepped closer and gave him a half-hug before stepping back again. “Thank you very much, Hiryuu-san!” she said sincerely, and smiled warmly.
After that, he began chattering again, asking Hirato a bunch of questions about the car. She decided to pay attention this time, once again laughing at his antics.
She turned to the car, and rocked on her heels. “Let’s go!” she said urgently. It would be rude to go without Hirato, since it was his car, but she was starting to get impatient.
OTHER: Because she is only programmed to respond to the name "Naomi", Naomi will not respond to any other name used to get her attention.

ALIAS: I usually go by "Red," but people have also been known to call me "Kitty" before (no clue why...)
HOW DID YOU FIND US? From several sites. I saw you before, but it was the link from "Before Goodbye" that finally convinced me to sign up! ^_^
