KURO
Resistance is never futile...
Resistance is never futile...
NAME: Kuro (True name unknown)
AGE:Unknown (though thought to be in his mid-to-late twenties.)
GENDER: Male
RACE: Human
OCCUPATION: Liberation Movement Leader
REGION: Nation of Aeon
ERA: Future
POWER:
Improved Muscle Structure and Response~ As Kuro used to be a member of the U.A.S, he, like many of their operatives, underwent extensive treatment in the Human Improvement Module. Being one of their front-line troops, he was given an improved muscle structure and response time, meaning that in close quarters combat he is deadly. Able to move at inhuman speeds and use his body as a weapon, Kuro is not an enemy to be underestimated.
Leadership Skill~ Having years experience of leading both U.A.S troops and the Liberation Movement, Kuro is an adept commander. He has a fantastic grasp of militant strategy, and is well versed in the tactics of gurellia warfare. Having been privy to U.A.S tactics in the past, he often knows how and when to have the Liberation Movement strike.
Combat Skill~ Even without his Improvements, Kuro is a skilled warrior. Having been trained by the U.A.S, he is a skilled shot, and is even more deadly up close, using a pulse knife to great effect. As it is his weapon of choice, he has years of practice with it, and there are few people that can match his skill with a blade within the Liberation Movement.
EQUIPMENT:
Two Pulse Knives~ Two forearm-length combat knives, each fitted with an electromagnetic generator which, when activated, will cut through metal, and can disrupt human and robotic nervous systems. These were fashioned for Kuro by the first Liberation Movement Mechanics, and they have been his weapon of choice ever since. As such, they are fairly battered, but still in working order. He tends to keep one strapped to his left thigh, the other to his upper right chest.
Liberation Movement Pistol~ Kuro keeps a small, light-weight pistol tucked under his coat, holstered at the small of his back. He rarely uses it, generally preferring close quarters combat.
Kuro's Death-Mask~ When not at the Rig among his most trusted companions, Kuro wears a white, poorly painted death-mask over his face. It is both to conceal his identity, but also to add mystery to his persona. He knows the human psyche fears what it does not fully understand, and in remaining an unknown quantity, he hopes to strike fear into the hearts of those he fights.
Sneaking suit~ Beneath his long, concealing trench coat, Kuro wears a form-fitting sneaking suit. It puts pressure on a number of his muscle groups, keeping them from being strained or pulled when under immense stress. It also helps camouflage him in the darker areas of the city.
LIKES:
~ His comrades in the Liberation Movement; when you live and work with people long enough, they become family
~ Freedom; because every human being is entitled to it.
~ Fighting for a cause; is there anything else worth fighting for if not a cause?
~ Working out; his improved muscle structure needs constant exercise, or they tense up, severely limiting his movement.
~ Reading; particularly philosophical theories.
~ The occasional joke; because, in dark times, laughter is necessary to lift one's spirit.
DISLIKES:
~ The Government; because they are both oppressive and inhumane, and he has seen their true motives.
~ The U.A.S; mindless tools of the government, anyone who remains a member of the U.A.S has lost too much of their humanity to be considered human.
~ Unnecessary death; Kuro is, for the most part, a humanitarian, and he won't kill unless it is ultimately necessary.
~ Senseless fighting; if there is a way to end conflict without drawing weapons, Kuro will jump to embrace it.
~ Fish; problematic, as it tends to be one of the only kind of foods served at the Rig.
~ Muscle spasms; if he doesn't keep his improved muscle structure constantly exercised, they have a tendency to freeze up. It is remarkably painful, and it leaves him unable to move for hours.
FEARS:
~ Watching the Government stay in power, controlling the entirety of Aeon like senseless pawns.
~ The debasement of humanity, and the reduction of core morals and values.
~ Hurting innocents in the war he has started.
SECRET:
~ Kuro's true identity is a secret from most, and not even those closest to him in the Liberation Movement know his true name.
~ Kuro has, in the past, been forced to make some rather inhumane decisions himself, and his actions as a former U.A.S member haunt him.
PERSONALITY:
~ Strong-willed; Kuro is renowned among the Liberation Movement for being a strong-willed and determined leader, who will fight against impossible odds to achieve his ends. No matter what obstacle he faces, he will find a way to overcome it, or will die trying.
~ Morally conscious; Despite leading a war-like resistance movement against a tyrannical government, Kuro maintains a very morally conscious outlook on life. He will not tolerate the killing of innocents, and should U.A.S members surrender, he will not allow them to be tortured or killed in cold blood. He fears becoming as monstrous and inhumane as the current regime, and can thus often seem a little more gentle than he should be, erring on the side of caution when it comes to morally grey matters.
~ Warm-hearted; Kuro cares deeply for those in the Liberation Movement. He thinks of them as extended family, and once one has proven themselves trustworthy to him and his cause, he will go to almost any lengths to protect them and keep them safe. He is also surprisingly socially adept, bringing light hearted humour to the Rig in order to lift his comrades spirits.
~ Secretive; Despite being friendly toward his comrades, Kuro is known for his secrecy. Even those closest to him know very little about him, his emotions, or his past. Whether this is just a natural trait, or a way to remain anonymous when half of Aeon searches for him, it is unknown.
~ Philosophical; Kuro has studied numerous philosophies in his spare time, and reads other's theories on life, death, and politics. It has made him a remarkably broad minded individual, who fears very little, and appears remarkably educated. He has a very utilitarian set of ethics, always putting 'greater good' before his own needs or wants.
HISTORY:
While Kuro's history is not publicly known, he himself remembers his past perfectly and he does his best to cover it up. He was born to a poor family, one that, even after the new Government's take-over, was given no financial aid. He was poorly educated, and lived in Taris City's slums until his early twenties, where, in an attempt to escape the poverty he was raised in, he joined the newly formed U.A.S.
Starting off as a mere security guard, Kuro quickly rose through the ranks, his willingness to fight and be moved between stations something looked for in the higher echelons of the U.A.S. With each rank he gained, he became more respected within the organization, often being given more risky assignments by his Commanders, as they knew he would complete them without fail. His superiors placed much faith in him, and he never failed to disappoint. He was trained constantly, barely given any free time, the U.A.S honing his earlier life's brawling skill and rage into deadly proficiency.
When Pharmex Industries developed the Human Improvement Module, and started looking for test subjects within the U.A.S, Kuro was one of the first to volunteer. Wishing to prove his ultimate loyalty to the Government, he could see no better way to do so than allow himself to become a test subject.
After a number of painful operations and surgical procedures, Kuro became one of the first Humanely Developed 'Beings' in the U.A.S, and was assigned to Captain a special operations team, dealing with 'riots' in under developed parts of Aeon. Kuro led his team fearlessly for a number of years, generally neutralizing small threats, the sight alone of U.A.S shock troopers enough to terrify rioters into submission.
However, his life, and the fate of Aeon, was to change when he was given an assignment too close to home. Kuro was asked to neutralize a threat in the Taris slums, the place he grew up, and he only agreed because past experience suggested no force would be necessary in breaking up the gathered mob. Things turned out quite differently.
Rather than be put off by the sight of the U.A.S, the rioters attacked, and the U.A.S were forced to open fire on unarmed men and women. Kuro, not wishing to see the people he had once known be cut down, attempted to stop his units attack. However, his orders were not heard, as the Commander of the organization, Vaden, had ordered their execution. Caught in the cross-fire, Kuro was thought to be fatally wounded, and pronounced dead.
He was not so. Rather, he was treated by the Taris City slums residents, and started to remember his roots. During his recovery, he became completely and utterly disillusioned with the Government he had come to serve, and began reading a number of philosophical books, beginning to incorporate new theories into his rational. After conversations with those of the area, he realized that the Government he had believed in was a sham, and that he had known, all along, since they had failed to help his own family, that they had only the rich in mind. He began to see them as oppressive dictators, who attempted to destroy human rights and the freedom of speech.
Making a snap decision, Kuro forgot his old name, allowing it to die with his position in the U.A.S, and took the name Kuro, meaning 'black', reflecting the true darkness of his soul.
He quickly started recruiting members for a self-proclaimed Liberation Movement, and using an old, abandoned oil rig as a base of operations, began planning the Government's downfall. Since his forming the Liberation Movement, it has grown rapidly in size and power, his knowledge of U.A.S tactics and key storage depots invaluable.
More recently, he has taken to leading raids directly on U.A.S outposts, and what began as an annoyance, a mere thorn in the Government's side, has become a serious threat. The odd raid has turned into what seems like a constant war. However, despite his militant attitude, Kuro has become quite the philosopher, and is far more publicly minded than he used to be. He often attempts to perform random acts of kindness for the wider community, attempting to give back what he had helped take from so many.
