FUYUKO TAMA
Momma, you were always somewhere,
And Daddy, I live out of town,
So tell me how could I ever be normal somehow?
Momma, you were always somewhere,
And Daddy, I live out of town,
So tell me how could I ever be normal somehow?
NAME: Fuyuko Tama
AGE: 27
GENDER: Female
RACE: Hanyou (half human, half snow demon)
OCCUPATION: Dancer/Entertainer
REGION: Japanese Empire
ERA: Feudal Japan
POWER:
- Extreme Healing - Fuyuko can come back from many serious wounds in just days due to her demon blood, though the closer she gets to her "off night", the longer it will take her to heal.
- Enhanced Senses - Because of her demon blood, she has enhanced senses of smell, taste, sight, hearing and touch are greatly enhanced. She also has a kind of sixth sense, which usually tells her that people are lying.
- Snow Flurry - She can create and control flurries of snow that she can use to protect herself, attack enemies, or just look pretty. She needs water to use this power, however. And if it’s snowing, beware. Every single snowflake falling down can and will be used by her as a weapon/distraction/decoration/etc.
- Aurora - This works almost the same as her Snow Flurry. The effect of this power, however, is more like a mirage. Using snow, she can create illusions that she can control, though they take a considerable amount of concentration to perfect and maintain. She can create anything from a floating scene to a life-size person. She usually just uses them to make beautiful lights, like the Aurora Borealis.
- Beads of Light - She often uses this "power" as part of her performance, along with her Snow Illusions. When the beads that she has in her hair and around her neck strike one another with great force, they create a spectacular light show and a tiny explosion that is at least enough to stun a human child. The lights are beautiful, but blinding if you stand too close, so she can also use them to distract people attacking her.
- Healer - Fuyuko can heal people besides herself, perhaps because of her unique parenthood. She can purify poisons from a wound and heal it, though extremely deep wounds are beyond her skills. Though she doesn’t purify on touch, like a miko, she does have some purifying abilities in her, and can use them as a weapon if she needs to.
EQUIPMENT:
- Clothes/Costumes - The costumes and masks she uses in her acts. She carried them in a small sack she always carries.
- Flute - She plays this little flute, a gift from her father, often, and most of the tunes she plays on it are quite sad and long, displaying her inner anguish. She keeps it in the same bag as her costumes.
- Harp - This parting gift from her mother is just small enough for her to carry with her, and it has its own bag that she carries, often tied to her first bag.
LIKES:
- Sunny Days - Despite her being half snow demon, Fuyuko loves warm spring or summer days, and often loves to just lie out in the sun and relax. She thinks of springtime as the ultimate representation of life. Spring snow is her favorite of all.
- Snowstorms - She also, however, loves snowstorms, and wintertime. She sees winter as a time of playing and beauty, though it is more of a serene beauty, as opposed to the active hustle of springtime.
- Other Children - Fuyuko loves to play with other children her age (?), and doesn't really care who they are or where they came from, as long as they're nice to her and are playing something interesting.
- Performing - Fuyuko's life is the spotlight, and she loves performing more than anything else. She thinks that performing an act is like putting on a mask, but instead of hiding your face, you're hiding your life, your pains, and your fears. She feels at peace and completely at joy while she is performing.
- Taking Naps - Fuyuko tires easily, and taking naps is one of her favorite things, especially if she is curled up with a companion or parental figure she loves greatly. She loves to dream especially, and loves sharing her dreams with other people, no matter how stupid they might be.
- The Palace - Fuyuko thinks that the palace is a beautiful, dreamy place, and loves to just stare at it and come up with fun stories about it and its past inhabitants. She especially likes imaging what the Royal Family is like, and she has a hundred different theories, each more romantic than the last.
DISLIKES:
- Thunderstorms - Big, loud noises, like thunder, frighten Fuyuko, and she hates thunderstorms. She doesn't like that something so common can be so destructive and take as many lives as they do so easily. She hates thunderstorms caused by demons most of all.
- Big, Scary Men - Men who look very scary or imposing scare her, and she doesn't like to talk to them. It is a bit of a judgment on her part, but she associates them with her uncle, and hates them. You can hardly blame her, however, as young as she is.
- Blood - The sight of blood means a scene of death, and that is one of Fuyuko's least favorite things. She hates the thought of someone being hurt or killed at the hands of someone else, and dislikes people who hurt others for fun.
- People Yelling At Each Other - People fighting other people is a very fast way to scare Fuyuko away. She hates disputes or violence towards someone you love, and is terrified that if people get angry at each other, they'll leave each other, and they'll always be sad. If she can, she'll always to try and break up a fight as best she can.
- Being Wrong - As a child, Fuyuko is somewhat entitled, and she hates being told that she is wrong, or realizing that she is wrong. She is not a terribly good loser either.
FEARS:
- Being Abandoned - Once Fuyuko befriends someone, she becomes somewhat clingy and afraid, as she is utterly terrified of being abandoned. She has a inferiority complex that comes and goes, and usually tends to believe that, if someone leaves or dies, it is because she wasn't good enough for them, or she wasn't strong enough to save them.
SECRET:
- Dead - No matter what she might tell you, Fuyuko's parents are not merely away. They died in a vicious attack when she was ten, and she was separated from her twin brother in the same incident.
PERSONALITY:
Fuyuko is a very typical little girl and, if not for her appearance, she is much the same as any other little girl. She is happy and bubbly and always cheerful. She is very social and doesn't judge you (unless you're a big hairy man). She is as innocent and pure as she can be, and always tries to keep a smile on her face. She attaches easily to kind, warm figures, and never hesitates to speak her mind. She doesn't have a very mature or realistic way of looking at the world, and dreams without inhibition. Her presence and actions tend to be inspiring to those around her, since she perseveres in her beliefs through anything, and her heart is completely unshakable.
Her temper, much as the rest of her, is very childish. She tends to throw tantrums quite often, and tries very hard to stay mad, just for defiance, but usually tends to get distracted or forgetful along the way, and is back to her cheerful, happy self. She never forgets what made her angry, though, and will use the information against you to get what she wants. She does tend to have a manipulative streak, and she is quite proud of her ability to cry her way out of any bad situation. She is a bit of a crybaby, and it is very easy to make her tear up. Just like with her anger, however, she can't keep it up for very long, and often finds something to smile about very quickly.
Due to her lack of parental attention, Fuyuko does tend to be a bit of a spotlight hog, and is always craving attentions and praise. This never gets to the point of hurting someone else; because her kind side is stronger than her "diva" side, but when she's alone...she is quite the little show-off, always eager to prove that she is good. This is also where her inferiority complex kicks in, because she always feels like other people are greater or stronger than she is.
She always tries to keep a smile on, even when it has no business being there. Showing her sorrow is something she rarely ever does. It seems to be a pride thing that afflicts most demons. She doesn’t want the world to believe she is weak or young or defenseless or vulnerable, so she keeps herself behind a wall of “happy”. And, looking as young as she does, this is not hard. People are willing to believe that she just doesn’t understand the sorrow, rather than admit that she is hiding it from them.
Despite her appearance and general outlook, however, Fuyuko is much older than the child she appears to be. The knowledge she has acquired in her years of life do not vanish because of her young looks. The weight of her years does, inevitably, bear down on her occasionally, and these times may appear startling to those who aren't used to them. She may say things too mature for her voice, too angry for her heart, too savage for her body. These moments often occur in the presence of other demons, when she feels she can be "herself" the most. And the gloomy way her mind tends to actually look at things may be depressing for others.
And, like all demons and half-demons, she has a dark side. Though she keeps it well in check, the voice of her “demon” is always whispering in her head, and she, like all eventually do, must succumb to it eventually. These days, often occurring around the new moon, are violent and frightening, because nothing is scarier than a young girl ripping small animals apart and murmuring to herself about how much she wants to kill things.
HISTORY:
Fuyuko's birth was not only forbidden, but thought to be impossible. Her mother was not only a great political figure, but she was also a miko. Her father was a snow demon (dog, to be specific) that encountered her mother's traveling party deep in the mountains. Though he slaughtered all the men accompanying her, he could not bring himself to harm the beautiful, delicate woman before him, who betrayed no fear nor aggression in his presence. She asked him carefully, rather than fleeing or fighting, “Are you going to kill me as well?” He did not. Instead, he sheltered her and kept her safe, and even accompanied her back home (hidden, of course), and stayed near to her. She met him often in secret, and, as these things go, they fell in love.
Two years after they met, the couple was given children. Twins, named Huyu and Fuyuko, the children were born in the dead of winter. The birth was terribly controversial, and the woman was evicted from the palace in shame. Her human husband divorced her, and denied her any access to the three children she had already had with him. She went to live with her mate, however, and kept the half-breed children with her. For a time, they were quite happy. Fuyuko's father was not a violent man, and was indeed quite kind and fatherly to his children. Being a dog demon, he had a very strong sense of loyalty to his mate and his pups, and never once strayed from them.
Even when she was with her parents, Fuyuko loved to perform. Her parents, of course, embraced her gift of music and dance, and, when she turned sixteen (a notable age for humans), she was presented with a flute as a gift from her father and a harp from her mother. Both instruments were hand-crafted. Huyu gave her the beads she now wears in her hair. These three gifts are so close to her heart that any hint of anyone trying to take or harm them will bring out her dark side. That night, Fuyuko got to perform in front of a multitude of demons, friends of her father, and found out just how much she loved being in the spotlight.
Just days after, however, Fuyuko witnessed a tragedy. A new village had been started near where she lived with her family a year before, and was now thriving and growing as a travelers’ town. Though they were peaceful at first, the villagers and guests grew increasingly more frightened of the thought of living near a powerful demon, his miko wife and their two bastard children. So, in one horrible night, a team of fifty demon-slayers and ninjas specially hired for the job came and attacked the couple in their home. The rain and thunder drowned out the screams and washed away the blood, but Fuyuko's mind could not be fixed. Her father had just enough time to put her and her brother in a boat and shove them into the river behind their cave before he was caught. Though Huyu was with her, the storm was harsh. The river was flooded and with one tiny movement, Fuyuko was thrown over the side of the boat and separated from the only family she had left.
When she woke up, she was alone in a strange village. All she had was her bag, which she had somehow managed to keep a hold on. At first, she was desperate to find her brother, but she had drifted too far to find him, and she was now miles away from anywhere she recognized. She found quickly that the world was much harsher than the life she had lived, but was kinder to her somewhat because of her age. She now wanders around almost aimlessly, having given up on ever finding her brother or parents, being convinced that they are all dead. Somehow, however, she manages to keep her smile up. Her performances keep her and those around her in a semblance of happy, and she can find it in herself to pretend for just a little bit longer.
