Tree's loomed high overhead, beautiful in the day time, but now they looked very imposing. At least to the twelve year old boy that now plucked his way through them. To him they were starting to look like monsters, towering high over head, blocking the way he was supposed to go.
What was the young Prince doing out so far? That was quite a good question, seeing as he wasn't supposed to be out of the Palace with out a gaurd in the first place, let alone out of the Main Village. He had been extremely bored that day, even more so than usual. And a little upset when he and his father had one of their little "talks', after a broken statue had been found by one of the servants in the garden. It hadn't been on purpose, this time at least, he still got just as much of the blame though. Probably the only bit of real attention he ever got from the man.
That was earlier that morning, and as the sun rose high, and everyone got busy, Haru decided to go have a little fun. So after dodging the palace guards, he went into the village. But, the young Prince was feeling a little extra adventurous today, plus the guards had noticed he was gone faster than usual, and he wasn't ready to give up his little bit of fun yet.
He went out into the forest outside the village, something he had yet to do in his short life. Sometime along the way, he had found a rather sturdy stick, and with it he pretended he was a swordsman, swiping and slashing at invisible enemies. Soon though, he grew bored with that game, and just walked knocking the stick against a tree trunk from time to time.
He must've walked for sometime, for before he knew it, the forest had grown much darker, and this is where he is now. Alone in the forest at night, having absolutely no idea where he was. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.
Her heard a noise a rustling in the bushes, and a growl, with out thinking really, he started running, stumbling an tripping, but managing to keep his balance some how. He burst out of the trees an into a clearing, tumbling onto the ground. Nothing was chasing him. He was alright, cept for a few bruises, and cuts on his face where twigs and branches had lashed at it during his run.
He sat up rubbing the arm he had fell on, looking around, only to find something large an ominous. It was just an old shrine, a creepy old shrine though.
There was more rustling in the bushes, and he let out a loud scream, somewhat high pitched, since his voice had yet to hit it changing stages. He quickly crawled backwards away from the bushes, when a little toad jumped out, croaked, looked at him with beady eyes, and hoped back on its way.

Yamakazi Maresuke was looking around for food by the Temple of Taka-Okami. His stomach growled loudly, reminding him that he hadn’t eaten at all since the day before. His furry black wolf tail lashed in anger at his inability to find food that day. Since it was becoming winter, food was becoming harder to find, especially since Yama didn’t like eating meat all that much. Kiyoshi, his tan horse, was nibbling daintily on grass not too far away, and Sayuri and Hiroki, Yama’s cats, had wandered off to hunt. Sighing, Yama slumped to the ground, accepting the fact that he couldn’t find any food for that day.
Yama was just nodding off to sleep when he heard a high pitched scream, not too far away. Jolted awake, he jumped to his feet and raced off toward the sound. Kiyoshi flicked an ear toward the sound, but continued eating grass. Yama peeked around the corner of the temple, hiding behind a bush and looking for where the scream came from. All that could be seen above the bush were his furry black ears and hair, and his glowing green eyes. Unsure what to expect, his eyes widened in surprise at what he saw.
It was a boy, about his age, but a little taller, since Yama was so short. He looked scared, but Yama couldn’t see anything that might have frightened the boy. Warily, Yamakazi snuck closer, hiding behind bushes to remain out of sight. His ears were pricked up in curiosity and confusion. All thoughts of hunger left behind, he was concentrating on the boy. Who was he? Why was he out in the forest? Why did he seem so scared? Yama couldn’t help but think of so many questions. Of course, ruining the silence, his stomach grumbled loudly again, giving away Yama’s position, and probably frightening the boy more.
((Sorry it's short, my muse is running slow today. >.<))

It was then another sound, a growling sound could be heard behind him. With a little yelp, the boy scrambled to his feet, brandishing his stick as one would a sword."W-who, w-ho goes there? Show yourself" Gray eyes glanced around wildly as he stammered. They then fell on a pair of black ears, sticking up from behind a bush near the temple.
" Hiyah"
Instead of running away this time, he ran forward swinging the stick down in an attempt to smack the creature on the head with enough force to snap the stick were the blow to land. Perhaps not the smartest idea, considering with those ears it could have very well been a wolf, and hitting it would've just pissed it off had it been. though the boy probably couldn't outrun one either. Though in truth, he just wasn't thinking very rationally.
He cracked one, and then both eyes open to see whatever it was. Gray eyes turned down to the beast, only to realize it wasn't a beast at all. Well not entirely. It was boy who couldn't be too much older than himself, perhaps younger considering how short he was. He wasn't not entirely a beast, because those black wolf ears belonged to him.
"Ah!"
Another shout. Just when the young boy thought he had enough scares for one night. He staggered back, before tripping and falling on his but, he ignored it though, continuing to crawl backwards away from the thing. " What the- What are you!?' Needles to say, the Prince had yet to see a demon, or even a half, in the short time he's been on this earth. Now the sudden appearance of a boy with wolf ears, when he was already close to hysterics, had him frightened half out of his wits. He should've stayed at the palace that day.

When the boy ran at him with a stick, Yamakazi ducked behind the bush, waiting for the boy to attack. He didn’t want to scare the boy, but he was pretty scared too by now, and there was nowhere for him to run. The boy smacked him with the stick right between the ears hard enough to break the stick. “Oww, what did you do that for?” Yama exclaimed, covering the painful spot on his head with both hands to protect it. His ears were flat against his head in fear of being whacked again.
Then, the screaming started. Apparently this boy was even more frightened of him than Yama was of the boy. Since Yama hadn’t eaten all day, his senses were stronger than usual, and the screaming was deafening at point blank range. “Please, stop screaming! You're hurting my ears...” Yama shouted out in pain, covering his ears with his hands to try and block out the sound. He was doubled over by now, huddled behind the bush. And to top it all off, his stomach was gurgling nonstop now, just adding to the increasingly bad day.
Cautiously, Yamakazi sat up and uncovered his ears, tail wagging nervously. Did this boy really have no idea what he was? Had he not been taught to think demons and half demons were total evil monsters with no feelings or emotions, like some others had thought of Yama when they saw him? Sure, this boy was scared of him, but only because he was frightened and startled, right? “Uh, I-I’m Yamakazi. Who’re you?” Yama asked tentatively, inspecting the boy. He didn’t seem like he went into the forest a lot, otherwise, he probably wouldn’t have been startled to see Yama. This was a part of the forest Yama had been to several times before, and had been seem in the surrounding area plenty of times.

Wide gray eyes stared at the other boy, but the prince didn't make another charge. For one thing his "weapon " was broken, and as the boy spoke again, it didn't seem as if any harm was meant. It seemed he was just a scared, mostly by the screams.
Cautiously Haru stood back up, brushing himself off. He didn't apologize, of course, even if he had whacked him in the head. Why should he? The other boy had startled him first, and was apparently some freak of nature. Stormy eyes went back to the other again, studying him for a moment with a little tilt of his head. " Well, are you going to answer e?' Perhaps impoliteness wasn't a good idea when faced with a boy with wolf ears, but now that the shock had subsided, Haru of course, would be Haru. though there was still the slight tremble of his form, suggesting he was still rather frightened.
" You don't know!?'His expression turned to one of shock as the boy asked who /he/ was. He didn't already know!? How couldn't he !? Everyone should know! The boy lifted his chin arrogantly and puffed out his chest in a macho manner, attempting to look tough and important. Because he was, although his screams may have not been very manly. " I am Haru Yamazaki. The son of Arata Yamazaki, Emporer of all Japan" Came the all too arrogant introduction. The young boy didn't stop to think that the other could very well be an enemy of course. He was to caught up in himself to notice that.
Eyes narrowed at the other boy " And who, and what, are you?" The question was posed allot more rudely than the other's had been. Though, that was of course typical of Haru. He had yet to pick up on the social graces one of his class should posses, let alone the future Emporer. As he was now, most dreaded the day he would take power, and he should probably straighten his act up before that happened.

Yamakazi watched the other boy cautiously, unsure what to expect. Would he star screaming and try to hit him again? Would he run away? Yama definitely wasn’t expecting the next question. “You mean you really don’t know what I am? Wow, where have you been?” Almost everyone knew about demons and half demons, and most of the people he had met despised him or took pity on him. Those were his least favorite reactions, because he didn’t want to be hated, and he didn’t want anyone’s pity. Sighing, Yama spoke in a small, quiet voice. “I’m a half demon.” His ears twitched, lying flat on his head, blending in with his hair. He didn’t really like talking about being a half demon, because it brought up some bad memories from before he ran away from home to live in the woods.
Yama rolled his eyes as Haru, as he learned, puffed himself up to try and look all important and macho. He looked a bit like a bird, puffing out his feathers to look important, or a cat, fluffing up their fur when they were scared to look bigger and more intimidating. Or maybe even a chameleon, showing off its colors to scare away other chameleons. Even though he was shorter than Haru, he wasn’t scared at all. He kept thinking about the surprisingly girly screams that came from this exact person. It was hilarious, but he didn’t want to laugh and embarrass Haru.
Yama wasn’t really expecting the boy’s last question either. Did he listen at all? Yama had just told him who he was. “Like I said, I’m Yamakazi Maresuke. I’m a half wolf demon.” His voice dropped down to an almost silent whisper with the last few words. His stomach growled loudly, and it felt as if he were digesting himself from the inside out. “Oh, I’m so hungry.” He groaned to himself, doubling over again. It was as if there was a huge gap in his stomach, which there was, and his stomach was complaining about it and trying to fill it.
