Kurai sat in a chair by herself. She was observing the by-passers. She wasn't on any assignment and needed to past the time. She didn't really need to train. The only way she could get better was being redesigned. That didn't happen if it wasn't needed. Kurai was a bit of a loner as well. She feel she had to put up a cold front to be accepted. After all, her life was threatened once before. She could easily be marked as 'defective.' Kurai shivered at the thought.
She sat back in her chair. Her long green hair was in two pigtails and hung off each side of the chair. She hand her legs crossed and her arms slumped on the back of the chair. Her black skirt covered everything and her black boots went up to mid thigh. She was plainly dressed in green and black. On Kurai's left shoulder was the number '01' tattooed in red. The bottom over left sleeve had a control panel. This gave her access to the data banks of the U.A.S.
Kurai eyed the other members that walked by. Where were they going? How did they feel about the war? She wasn't a mind reader, but was still curious. What was the true difference between Humans and Androids? This she didn't know. She sighed. It was a question she might not ever know.

Greeeeat Nero through drearily in his head, as he left the office of a General in the U.A.S. He had just finished submitting a report on the security detail of the Capital City in person to said General, and had some down-time to blow on anything, which was just what he was dreading. The spire was unbelievably boring, and the Colonel knew what all the eggheads and bureaucrats were up to: Filing this and submitting that, and oh can I get that T-4 tax report? It sickened Nero to the pit of his stomach. These bugs didn't pay him enough to put up with it, but the looming threat of life imprisonment or execution kept him in the U.A.S., with what little freedom it really offered. He stroked his lightly bearded chin, and turned a corner in the Spire, a large NO SMOKING sign caused him to pause in his steps and sigh as he looked at it. He hated those bureaucrats and how they 'cared for their lungs'. He wished they would lessen their time on this world with a cigarette so he didn't have to put up with them for as long, or vice versa, if he could have a smoke right now and kill off a few more minutes of the drudging slavery that was service in the U.A.S. as an officer. He shook his head and pulled a mean-looking face, punching at the plastic sign, but doing little to it and much to himself. His knuckles reddened, Nero's face grew ever more annoyed, letting his fist relax and shaking his hand. Nero didn't care what a sign said, but if he was caught smoking indoors here he would be reprimanded, and so, he went without a cigarette for now. He stuffed his now hurt hand into his dark gray dress uniform pants, his collar and sleeves trimmed at the edges with a line of deep emerald green.
A golden Colonel insignia of the U.A.S. adorned both sides of his collar, as he walked past a waiting area in the Spire, his eyes were lowered to the ground as he approached, but soon his eyes raised to someone who didn't look like either a bureaucrat, or an officer. She was different, and it caught his attention almost immediately, mostly because she was a she. Most of there bureaucrats were thick-glasses sporting thirty-some-odd year old men who made this their career. She was dressed just as any other U.A.S. service member, dark Grey or black, with a green trim to her skirt, which caught Nero's eyes along with thigh-high boots. She seemed to be a tech, or something, because Nero noted her sleeve had a control panel. The girl slumped herself over a chair, seemingly bored as he was. He watched her watch a few passing members of the U.A.S., some bureaucrats, as he made his way closer. Nero halted close, his eyes on the pigtail sporting green-haired girl. She wasn't half-bad looking in Nero's opinion, and hey, if he could start some conversation, maybe they would have something in common. Being a psychotic killer usually meant he was a loner, but every now and again he didn't mind getting to know a young lady as attractive as this one. Even killers had needs for companionship, and Nero was no exception. He walked past her at first, and then stopped just as he passed her, turning and leaning against the wall near her. He crossed his arms over his chest and made a sigh, looking over toward the girl and giving her a faint smile. "You're a different face..." Nero commented, wondering if she would reply. "... What brings you to the spire? You don't look like one of them bookworms." Nero eyed her arm with the control panel, a red 01 was tattooed, possibly, in his opinion, a squad number. Maybe she was a runner and they didn't wanna lose track of her? Nero didn't question it, he just kept his faint smile and looked the girl in the eyes after inspecting the tattoo on her arm.

Kurai jumped at the sound of someone talking to her. She didn't think anyone even saw her. To her side was a rugged man. He was leaning on the wall with his arms crossed across his chest. "You're a different face... What brings you to the spire? You don't look like one of them bookworms." He asked. She noticed he was eying the number on her arm. Kurai gave a confused look before answering. "I'm new you could say. Nothing really. Is there anything I can help you with, Sir?" Her voice didn't have an emotion. She had learned not too. If someone saw the real her, she feared she would be disassembled.
Kurai took a better look at him. He looked like a Colonel. Her eyes flashed dark purple for a second as she figured out who had approached her. It was a nifty skill, but that seemed a little more standard for Androids now a days. Colonel Virrus Brackwater Nero. Age 24. A year older then her appearance. She nodded, her eyes now their normal green.

Nero nodded as she spoke to him, to his ears she had a nice voice despite it being completely monotone. He could tell just from that she was apprehensive to talking with him, and he couldn't blame her. Maybe his reputation preceded him wherever he went? Being know as a Prisoner-turned-Colonel was sure to boil the heads of some of the more hard-working pole-up-the-butt senior lieutenants or majors, that had spent years attaining that rank, when Nero was bumped up to Colonel through means of sheer aggressive display on the battlefield. Nero looked away as he caught a confused look on her face, not wanting to scare her off he turned his gaze to the low ceiling of the hallway. "I'm new you could say. Nothing really. Is there anything I can help you with, Sir?" and with that, Nero's faint smile turned to a smirk. He let his arms drop to either side, and he pocketed his hands, still looking up at the ceiling. "Well, you certainly could help me. See, I seem to have forgotten your name. Mind refreshin' my memory?" Nero didn't exactly like being called 'sir' by a girl either, it made him feel as if he was going to be giving her orders, and well, she just wasn't under his jurisdiction to be commanding around. Nero would save that for later, though, for now he wanted her name; he didn't really know it, he was just trying to be coy about it. A few more bookwork bureaucrats passed by, minding their own business as if the world might end if they took a moment off their little folders and papers and took a look around them. That was something that bugged Nero to no end, though his face betrayed his true feelings at this point, he forced himself to keep a smirk. He realized she was probably still feeling up-tight, talking to a Colonel after all. Nero continued to her, while keeping his gaze from her "... and I'm off-duty... Ya don't need to be all... Formal." Nero tried to explain to her, but it was tough, he didn't exactly know what was going through his head, but he tried he best to understand. He was intelligent, he would give himself that much, but when it came to interaction with other people, well, he was limited in that scope.

"Well, you certainly could help me. See, I seem to have forgotten your name. Mind refreshin' my memory?" This didn't surprise Kurai, at all. In fact it would have surprised her if he knew her name. Most of the other members didn't care to remember their fellow companions, let alone Androids. The Colonel wasn't even looking at her now. Not that she mind. It was better than being stared and watched for mistakes.
"... and I'm off-duty... Ya don't need to be all... Formal." Nero added. Kurai nodded. She took a look back at the other members walking by now. They seemed lost in their own worlds. She stood up and faced the Colonel. "Kurai Tsuki. She answered with a bow. "You wish to be called Nero then?" Her voice was still formal and plain. That was how she was, at least how she presented herself. She sat back down folding her skirt back before sitting to keep it from getting wrinkled. Kurai did her best to look professional and perfect. It was the only way she believed she could be seen as useful. That was all she cared about. Green eyes watched the people past by again.

Nero's nicotine addiction was starting to get at him, making him slightly tired feeling. His face started to show it as he watched a few of the eggheads pass by. Oh, how he'd love to punch a few of these over-bearing little turds. But that was just the Nicotine making him have agitated thoughts, and he knew it, nevertheless these were still true feelings; he just kept them bottled up. His agitation was soothed slightly when the girl he was standing next to replied to him, finally revealing her name. Nero glanced over to see she stood and bowed, showing respect to him even though he was off-duty. Commendable in a military sense to Nero, but kind of unnecessary at the same time. "Kurai Tsuki." she called herself, it wasn't a bad name, but Nero wasn't the type to judge someone by their name. His judgement came from actions, and her actions were that of a crack soldier, in his opinion. Like she had seen her fair share of beatings from superior officers and did not want to disobey or disappoint. "You wish to be called Nero then?" she asked him, which caught him off guard. She knew his name? either he was unaware of a nametag on his dress uniform, which there was none, or she had done her homework. Nero didn't mind too much, it saved him the trouble of an awkward introduction. He pushed off the wall by leaning forward and casted his gaze on her as she smoothed out her skirt before she sat. She seemed the type to take care of her uniform, which was more than what could be said about Nero. His was barely ironed, and had a few creases that were mis-aligned. He didn't care too much, he was a slave to the U.A.S. in a sense, and uniforms were the least of his concerns.
"Well, how 'bout that... It isn't bad when you're a known person." Nero commented. "Kurai, you don't seem to be doing anythin' in the spire thats... Particularly important, are ya?" He added, wondering what she was doing just sitting around like this. Didn't she have a unit to go to or something? If she wasn't, he'd offer her a posting at the Capital City, maybe as one of his lieutenants. It'd sure be a welcome change to the mostly male-dominated Capital City division. As well as a ride back to the mainland on the transport that was coming to pick him up. Maybe he'd get a little deeper under the shell that this Ms. Tsuki put up.

Kurai kept her eyes on the by passers. "Not really. Do you need something?" She asked. Her green eyes looked back at him. It was her job to follow orders, even if they were from someone other then her partner.
She had a curious look on her face. What would a colonel need her to do? Kurai glanced back at the members walking. They were interesting, walking in they own world. She wondered why they were like that. Humans were strange creatures.

Nero brought a hand to his chin in a thinking sort of way, wrapping his index finger across his bearded chin. He nodded when she spoke "Not really. Do you need something?" and she turned to look at him with her green eyes. It was up to her whether she would take advantage of what he was about to offer her, and even if she didn't, he would try and pull some strings to have her transferred to his unit. Nero turned his eyes in the direction she had glanced after asking him, seeing more of the bureaucrats sucked into their own little worlds walking by going about their business. Nero shook his head and let his hand drop to his side, sighing and bowing his head forward. "Well, honestly, I'm one of the overseers of the Capital City, and I'm pretty short-staffed when it comes to half-decent troops. It's all up to you if ya want to take up this offer, I'd like ya to serve in the Capital City. It's good experience, and I'll see what I can do about giving you an appointed position as a Lieutenant." Nero said hushing it down a bit so the passers-by wouldn't hear him; he'd hate to have some lowlife bureaucrat turn from his folders of books and try and brown-nose their way into the very same position he was offering Kurai.
With that, Nero turned away and leaned against the wall again, tilting his head to the side and watching the people as they pass. "They can't be that interestin'." Nero murmured, referring to her staring at the people who walked in either direction past them. He lifted his hand again, but this time to scratch at his hair, just above his ear, before dropping it to his side once more. It must be more dull than Nero's desk job at the Capital City here at the Spire, and he would assume she would jump on the offer to leave this tower in the middle of the ocean. It was unbelievably boring for Nero to just be here, but at least, he wasn't alone.

It was definitely a good offer. But what would her partner think? He saved her. He was the reason she was still functioning.
"That's a great offer...but...my partner. I owe him my life. I can't just leave him." Kurai looked at him. It was an amazing offer, one someone would be stupid not to take. But she couldn't bare to betray her partner. She cared deeply for him, even though she didn't show it.

Nero looked her up and down, she didn't show much with her body language, but he could tell with some subtlety that she was taken aback by his offer. Was it too much? She would reveal quite a bit with her words. "That's a great offer...but...my partner. I owe him my life. I can't just leave him." Nero nodded slowly to what she had to say, and he stopped for a moment to think. She had a partner... Who? It didn't really matter though, Nero wanted to get to know this girl a little better, he blinked and thought up a good idea, a compromise.
"What if... You didn't have to 'just' leave him... I'm a pretty powerful Colonel... I could see what I can do about pullin' them strings and gettin' your partner a transfer too..." Nero almost cringed at that thought, more men, just what he needed. But if he worked with this young lady he couldn't be all that incompetent, after all, he was able to save her life. Nero pushed off the wall and looked Kurai right in the eyes. "That is, if you're still game." Nero added, shoving his hands in is pockets and shifting his weight from his heels to his toes. He had some time still before the transport came to pick him up, but not much.

The Colonel was offering a lot. What was he trying to gain from her? She could only wonder.
"I will have to discuss it with him. But I don't see a reason he wouldn't want to take this offer, Nero." Kurai answered him with a nod. She kept her perfect stance and voice to its unemotional state. Though inside she felt like maybe now she was finally seen as important, even if she wasn't like Sasuke. This was a happy thought and inside she was smiling brightly.

"I will have to discuss it with him. But I don't see a reason he wouldn't want to take this offer, Nero." Nero nodded with a smirk, this was good. At least he could have a competent member of in his unit, and maybe another if it came right down to it. He pulled a hand from his pocket and checked his watch, he had a few more minutes. Nero stuffed his hand back into his pocket and looked her up and down. She didn't show much at all on the outside, this Kurai girl. He tilted his head and sighed, she was interesting, but didn't say much. It was strange to Nero, the way this girl acted.
"Well, that was all... I need t'go soon, transport on a schedule and all that... You should loosen up, though, not everyone enjoys bein' around a stoic soldier." Nero commented, trying to make a joke, but failing miserably. Nero kept his smirk though and chuckled to himself. "You can get in touch with me at the Capital City any way you'd like..."

She always believed she had to be perfect and now Nero was saying not everyone wanted her that way. But she nodded, the Capital. She would go talk to Draven about the offer. She didn't see a reason he would neglect it. In fact, he might thank her for it. It was a small thing she could do to make up for him saving her life.

Nero nodded to Kuai and walked off down the hallway, pushing past a few of the beaurocrats that were still nose-deep in their work. Leaving the young lady to sit and think about his offer. He continued to mull over who it was that she would be bringing with her, though, so strange that she would be so attached to someone. Saving her life though, that must've been some kind of feat. As Nero turned a corner and headed toward the landing pad he could only imagine the battles she had seen, if any at all. When he went outside, there was a transport waiting. It was a large vessel, three landing gears, and two turbines on either side that allowed for Verital Take off and Landing. Nero entered the transport through the drop-down back entrance, and sat down on the left bench. He didn't buckle up, he just pulled his hand out of his pocket with a pack of cigarettes grasped, taking out a smoke and sticking it in the corner of his mouth. He lit it just as the transport took off and the drop-down entrance closed. He was back off to the Capital City, to oversee security in the unbelievably uneventful city. Nero sighed and wondered if the young lady would take him up on his offer.
