However, at the same time, he is still competent enough to fight off weaker opponents, though his own lack of confidence hinders him greatly.

SECRET: Despite his oath to protect them, he envies the Royal Family because, as someone born on the bottom rung on society, he does not have a last name.
PERSONALITY: Will is an incredibly shy person. Many who have met him for the first time often describe him with words such as 'frail' or 'soft' because of how introverted he is. He rarely speaks up first and is very nervous around new people, to the point of being almost unable to speak - indeed, he has a reputation among the apprentice knights for being a mumbler, often at best mumbling his name to them. Tying into this shyness and nervousness is a deep-rooted fear of the people and the mythical creatures across the lands that Knights are expected to be unafraid of - deadly warriors make him shrink in his boots and fierce ogres make him want to drop his sword and run for his life. However, despite this, there is within him a deep-seated desire to protect people and at times like these, even when he is shaking and obviously afraid, he still has the courage to face it anyway.
He is also something of a worrier, often fretting over little things as though small accidents he makes are something he will be punished severely for. He is very critical of himself and takes other people's opinions to heart - when he is complimented by someone, he is over the moon, but when he is criticized, he falls that much deeper into the ocean. His own lack of self esteem seems to stem from this and often he has a hard time convincing himself he's capable of anything at all. However, despite this weakness, there is a talented, imaginative mind within him. Though not the smartest genius in the land, he has a creative streak within him that allows him to take advantage of situations when things look dire and is able to make a plan on the spot. His creativity is not solely to be found in battle however as even when he was young he liked to draw on stone with chalk and since he has learned to read, he has begun indulging in his creative talents, though very few people know of these drawings or writings as he keeps them secret.
HISTORY: Born to a poor family, even at a young age Will had to work hard to help the family make ends meet, but at this stage in his life Will was not ready to take on this kind of responsibility. His frequent mistakes led only to his parents punishing him strictly, sometimes striking him for his errors, but regardless Will couldn't find it in him to hate his parents and instead turned all of their criticism in on himself. He was always judging himself, always telling himself to do far, far better than he was faring. However, his time with his parents was not long. At only five years old, he watched them die in a terrible fire when a fire lit in the house had failed to be extinguished in time. He alone barely escaped the house's wreckage and the fire, found coughing and begging for air by one of the neighbors.
As they had no place for him, they offered him to the knights, thinking he might be useful as a servant. When he proved himself useless as a servant due to his bumbling and his mistakes, they almost got rid of him. However, it was at that time that they noticed that, despite his age, he was a fit young kid and decided that he would be sent to training to become a knight. Will, unused to this new world he was thrown into, struggled as the training began - his form was clumsy and the other trainees were able to easily and soundly defeat him, but nonetheless he continued with it, simply because he didn't want to seem useless again and be abandoned. This constant fear of being thrown out pushed him forwards and despite his faults, he barely managed to hang in by the skin of his teeth and get the basics learned. It was at this time that when his master questioned him, they realized he didn't know how to read and so decided to have one of the servants tutor him on how to do so. Surprisingly, he managed to learn quickly and the books he reads have opened up a new world for him. Grateful that they would give him this gift of being able to read and write, he pledged loyalty to the knights and decided he would make it up to them by becoming a great knight.
