PERSONALITY: He is a gentlemen who is very polite, but also rather whimsical if he is in a good mood. His main point of pride is his work which he especially tries to prove is not dangerous, even if there are issues that could be dangerous and need fixing. Death is his greatest foe but he finds vampires distasteful, even though he requires them for his research. He does not mind their company outside of his work, and has more than one friend amongst them so obviously he rather finds their company enjoyable. He prefers not to fight unless his life is truly in danger, and life is valuable but also sometimes a life must be taken in the name of progress. He is a scientist and inventor above all else, and many of his inventions are not weapons, they are other mostly transportation and other helpful devices.
HISTORY: He was born almost a century ago, and when he was young he lost his mother to disease and his father struggled to support him and his sister. However his sister died when he was a child from an untreated wound when there was no doctor they could afford, this affirmed his fear of death and desire to cheat it. He spent many days watching a local eccentric working in his lab, in fact he was allowed in and helped out with small tasks and cleaning for a small payment to support him and his father. The man who he merely called Professor Smith became a mentor and confidante, and he learned about vampires and werewolves and many other things. He was warned about toying with the mortal coil, as it was evident to his mentor that he might fall into that trap. However the boy only pretended to heed the warnings, and thus he spent much of his childhood in a stange lab learning science and technology. This was how his life went until he was the age of twenty, when his mentor died when one of his experiments went awry and the young man who feared death began his search for immortality that did not involve dying. It was through the vampires existence he found his so called salvation, even though he too became some kind of freak of society.
He'd spent five years researching various libraries he was allowed access to, and so far nothing came to him. Then he found a book bound in black cloth with silver chains, daring to peruse it's pages he saw a means of distilling the essence out of vampires. Through this message he created a brew that could extend his life, however there was no warning of the side effects that shook his world. He blacked out and felt violently ill, and after his body burned with pain he finally awoke and looked in the mirror, no longer a normal human he laughed and then put on his hat and took his cane. The world would know his genius, but not the secret to his youth as that was his alone. His father had just passed and he had tried to save him but failed, though now he could give the world his best for ages to come. He did not have immortality but he had something close, now he would outlive all others while keeping his youth for up to several hundred years if he did not get himself killed. The book he kept hidden away, and began to turn to invention as well as science and creating experimental medicines.
The next sixty-two years was a long and difficult process, with many failures and almost everything never getting finished because he ran out of money. He had to work jobs to make money sometimes, and others he took commissions to try and save the lives of wealthy clients with his creations. He gained a reputation for being somewhat insane and yet a benefactor, however the fact he never ages people thought he was a vampire but the fact he walked in the day proved otherwise. Nobody knew what he was, and even if they respected him they gave him space. Only those who knew him personally chose to associate with him and even as they grew older they were always good friends. He never tried to inflict upon another what he did to himself, even if they asked he would deny them knowing they would suffer the same fate. In his attempts to cheat death, Hector only gave himself a grand opportunity to help humanity. He also realized now he would see those he called friend or loved die while he carried on. In his fear he gave himself a blessing and a curse, which makes him feel like an outcast to society and yet responsible to aid humanity in their development.
