“Oh… I’m sorry about that.” Madoka looked to truly mean it. Then her face seemed surprised all of the sudden. “Two years? So you were… fourteen when it happened?” Kilala thought about it. "Yeah. I guess I was. I haven't really thought about my age." She smiled as she spoke. The little things like that slipped her mind a lot.
“I don’t see how you can keep smiling after all that.” Madoka bluntly stated. Maybe she shouldn't be able to. But if you hung on to the past, then no one should be able to smile. That didn't sound too appealing to Kilala. That could explain her happy personality.
“Hmm…” The girl added. “Maybe I can find you a tent or something. I used to camp out every now and then with some friends, so maybe I still have it.” Kilala shook her head. "I'm OK. You don't have to do that." Her ears twitched as a sound caught her attention. "Kiara! Leave the bucket alone! How can you still be hungry after all the fish you just ate?" She yelled to the cat eying the content of the bucket. She mewed innocently and walked away. In an attempt to get back on Kilala's good side, she rubbed against her, purring loudly. Kilala couldn't stay mad though and petted the demon's back in affection.

"I'm OK. You don't have to do that." Kilala told her with a shake of her head. “Are you sure? It’s not trouble.” It really wasn’t. She didn’t use that old tent anymore anyway… it was just lying around doing absolutely nothing, like a lazy husband. Maybe Kilala preferred to see the stars? You couldn’t see those whilst in a tent. If she didn’t want it, Madoka surely wasn’t going to push her. It was her life, her decision, even if some motherly side of Madoka wanted to lecture the girl about proper sleeping habits and the dangers of sleeping outside, the young and sane side was luckily strong enough to resist.
“Alright then…” she started before Kilala suddenly started yelling, catching Madoka completely off-guard. She flinched slightly before she realized the yell wasn’t directed at her. Turning around, she noticed Kilala’s cat standing by the bucket of fish and grinning down at it suspiciously. "Kiara! Leave the bucket alone! How can you still be hungry after all the fish you just ate?" the cat knew it was caught in the act, and quickly found its way back to its owner in order to make amends. It was great to see a human or… half-human, to be precise, and an animal getting along so well. Animals truly didn’t care who you were or what you looked like, their love was one of the purest in existence it seemed.
She merely sat by and watched the girl and the cat make up. Kilala seemed far too fond of the creature to stay mad, and the cat seemed well aware of that advantage. “Soul mates, huh?” she smiled warmly before turning to look out into the sea. It was sad that Kilala didn’t have a family any more, but at least she still had her furry friend to keep her company, and perhaps that was all she really needed in the end? Just someone to keep her company without reminding her of her situation, her mother’s death, the hateful glances she must’ve surely suffered through… Madoka could understand that. There were many times when she’d just sit with Shiroki and play around with him. He never asked her any difficult questions, never pushed her to talk about her feelings when she just wanted to forget about them for a moment. Pets were really great.

“Are you sure? It’s not trouble.” Madoka offered again. Kilala shook her head. She hadn't had a problem before. After two years of traveling, she was able to pick up on weather patterns and generally knew the kind of weather to expect. It was just something she picked up. “Alright then…” The girl added.
Kilala and Kiara cuddled for a while. She felt better and turned to the girl again hearing her comment. “Soul mates, huh?” She gave a smile. Yeah, the two of them could have been soul mates. They really did love and care for one another. If one died for some reason, the other would be lost. "You said you had a dog, right? Maybe we can meet him next time." Kilala smiled again. Even though she was part cat, she didn't mind canines. Kiara was the same way. At least as long as they didn't bark and chase them. But who would like a dog that chased them?
Kilala looked back at the bucket of fish. Hopefully, that was more than enough for the girl who had calmly looked past what she was. It made her feel good to have helped Madoka out. She only hoped she had helped out enough. Surely, this girl had her own problems in her life. There must have been some reason she wanted the money. Madoka didn't seem like the greedy kind.
Kilala looked off at the sky. The sun would be setting soon. She didn't know how long they had been fishing or even talking. But that didn't matter, she had made a new friend. That was something she would treasure. Kilala didn't have much in the world, but she would befriend anyone that wanted too.
